I met Sylvia on a couple’s cruise on the Ha Long Bay. We were the only ones that did not come as part of a couple and being the odd ones out, we found ourselves sharing cigarettes on the top deck of our ship and sharing life stories. I hope to find her one day and give her this painting.

Emilee Oliver is from Decatur, Illinois. She studied Music Business at Belmont University before moving to New Orleans where she works with oil paint, ceramics, still image, and textiles alongside dancing. Her work includes strong themes of the Divine Feminine, challenging the spectator to derive a new perspective on the ways women are categorized and find deeper understanding of sexual citizenship.
